Editorial #9 November 1942 - US Invasion of North Africa…David vs. Goliath!

American Operation Torch has commenced!  American troops are storming up the beachheads of North Africa.  Their objective – Liberate North Africa from Erwin Rommel’s Afrika Korps.   Think of trying to invade an ant farm where the ants are elephant-sized and made of steel.
We at the Daily Mirror do not want to sound negative but frankly, it is our opinion that the United States will crumble like a Styrofoam tugboat in a Level 5 hurricane.  I, for one, am astounded that the United States could have any confidence that they will beat Rommel at what he’s best at.   He has been given the name “Desert Fox” after all.  While we welcome the entrance of America fighting Nazi Germany, our forecast is that American soldiers will be crushed like biscuit crumbs.  They are heading into a contest they cannot possibly win.
We all love an underdog, but our world’s “David” has picked the wrong “Goliath” to mess with.
