Mussolini - My verdict? Be gone with him. The world will thrive without one more puppet of Hitler. Mussolini is a non-entity - a man with no real claim to existence or greatness. He enslaved the children of his nation to fight a madman's war, not his own. He waffled back and forth for over a year deciding which side to take based on who the winner was. After Hitler took our independence (France), Mussolini decided to be on Hitler's side only because there was no one to take his own.
He is a glorified invertebrate. A man who allows many members of his own religion to be executed by the Nazi SS. He couldn't even carry out his own successful war in the Balkans! Greece sent him running to his Mum (Hitler) for assistance.
It seems "Il Duce" can do nothing. He can't make a decision, he can't really be a major role in much of anything so he piggy-backs upon the successes of other nations. I believe that death will meet him in a lonely corner of a dark alley. Death will preserve the anonymity that he so richly deserves.
In short, Mussolini is a tool - and one that isn't useful for much. Be gone with him.
